1948 Olympics

Ok – so I have been cataloguing Wembley History Society photographs and I have come across loads from the 1948 Olympics. I LOVE these photos, my favourite was definatly a great shot of a workman putting the final touches on the holder for the Olympic torch. The relevance of these photographs really hit home because the Olympics are coming back to London in 2012 – I think it would be great if an exhibition could be put together after 2012, show casing the 1948 shots in Wembley with shots of 2012 in Hackney. Just an idea!! But my FAVOURITE photo – the Canine Societies dog show (c.1950s). Thousands of dogs with their prim and proper 1950s owners all packed into the old Wembley. It is an aerial shot and it is FABULOUS. Feeling good about archiving again today 🙂

    That article could have used one of those photos – always worth a thousand words; working with historic images is the best :¬)

      I thought that would be nice – but I wasn’t sure if I would be allowed. I’ll check with work next time. I love historic images but I am about to start a project at the National Archives cataloguing historical letters (petitions of clemency) and I am excited about doing something a bit different and really OLD 🙂

    I think everyone in a job has feelings of doubt or sometimes even worse despair. You have to remind yourself on those tough days, why you want to achieve this goal. It is days looking at beautiful photography, for instance, can be your ‘mantra’ for combating that feeling! I look forward to more of your posts.
